During Apple’s last fall tech event they unveiled the iPhone 13, the Apple Watch Series 5 and more. The one big thing that was missing was a much-needed update to the MacBook Pro. On Monday, as part of their “Unleashed” event, Apple dropped not one but two all-new MacBook Pros that check almost all the boxes on what used to be our favorite laptop. The new models are available in 14″ or 16″ options and feature cutting-edge tech like a new M1 Pro or M1 Max chip with up to 3.7x faster CPU performance than the previous models, which also gives them 13x faster graphics performance. They also have Liquid Retina XDR displays with ProMotion for the best display experience on a laptop–and the display is more edge-to-edge. All that new stuff is great, but we’re just excited about the old things they changed. The butterfly keyboard has been replaced with a proper keyboard including a full upper row of function keys… which means, yes, the Touch Bar is finally gone. The new MacBook Pros also have all the ports you’ll use on a regular basis–including MagSafe power–so no more pricey adapters. Basically, Apple supercharged the internals while taking the usability back to pre-2016. We can’t wait to get our hands on one when they drop on October 26th.
