The-Black-Manhattan

Looking for a new cocktail to try out this weekend? Want to wind down with a fresh new drink? We’ve got you covered. Here’s what you should drink this weekend.

The weather is ever so slowly turning colder, there’s a crispness in the air, and the days are getting shorter. So, as I look at my bar cart, I want something darker, moodier, and befitting the autumn season. This weekend, we’re going to make a Black Manhattan.

This riff on the classic Manhattan was first built by Todd Smith in 2005 and swaps out sweet vermouth for an Italian amaro. Smith calls for Averna but any darker, more herbaceous amaro should work fine. It’s a pretty common cocktail at this point so I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve come across it before.

Here’s what you need:

  • Rye Whiskey – WhistlePig PiggyBack is a personal favorite but any rye whiskey you enjoy should work. You could even swap in bourbon with a higher rye bill like Four Roses Single Barrel.
  • Amaro – If you’re unfamiliar with the world of amari, Averna is a great starting point. Otherwise, use whatever amaro you like!
  • Bitters – Angostura is a must here and we’d also suggest some orange bitters too.

Combine 2 ounces rye, 1 ounce amaro, and dash each of Angostura and orange bitters in a mixing glass. If you really want a prominent orange flavor add a small slice of orange. Add ice and stir until chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe glass, garnish with a luxardo cherry, and enjoy!

Whether at home or on-the-go, when it comes to vaporizers, we want it all. We want to be able to use full flower or potent concentrates depending on the mood–and keep it smooth without any harsh smoke. We want multiple modes for unique combinations of flavor and vapor. We want an oven that’s as easy to clean as it is adjustable depending on the length of the session. Sounds impossible, right? It’s not with PAX Plus. In addition to packing all those features into one perfectly portable device, it’s also one the most sleek and stylish products that’s come out recently.
