Keeping up with the flippancy of cell phone technology feels like a fool’s errand. We went from giant, handheld telephones to teeny-tiny pocket phones and now we’re heading toward tablet-sized devices. And while it had seemed like the era of the flip phone was done, Samsung is taking a nostalgic swing with two recently unveiled flippable/foldable phones. The Galaxy Z Flip3, along with the Fold3, is a smartphone with a fully functional touchscreen that can actually fold in on itself. The Z Flip3 is an upgrade on Samsung’s previously released Flip 2 with a larger cover screen, more powerful camera, and stronger design. Even if we’re a little wary of the nostalgia play, it is a pretty charming piece of tech. And it appears to work remarkably well. It sports a 120Hz refresh rate on the inner display, IPX8 water resistance, and stereo speakers. The Galaxy Z Flip3 retails at $1,000 but, with an eligible trade-in, it can be yours for $500.
