As if the C7 wasn’t superlative, the new C8 Corvette takes the mantle as the bowtie brand’s halo car in the biggest of ways. The body now looks like the combination of a Ferrari (front) and a Corvette (rear). The engine moves behind the cabin for mid-mounted configuration that improves performance, and the cabin becomes even more driver-focused. Power still comes from an old-school naturally-aspirated V8 engine. Whereas the C7 had an LT1 6.2-liter small block V8 with 455 horsepower, the C8 gets an LT2 V8 that’s good for 490 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque and 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque with the optional Sport exhaust. 0-60 will arrive in less than three seconds, putting it in the same territory as the $300K Ferrari F8 Tributo but at a shocking $60K price point. The Z51 package adds an adjustable suspension to change the stiffness and the ride height, a front splitter, and a big rear spoiler. Inside, you’ll find a big 12-inch screen, plenty of leather and carbon fiber, and room for two golf bags in the rear trunk, as well as a front cargo compartment. It’s a huge leap for the brand and the model, and expect even more performance to come in future iterations. Our only issue: no more manual transmission will be offered.
