When the Amazon Echo Show was originally released, we applauded taking everything that made the initial Echo devices great and adding video for news reports, song lyrics and video chat. The biggest issue with both the original Echo Show and the 2nd generation version was that it didn’t add quite enough to justify the $150+ price tag. That’s where the new Echo Show 5 comes in. It only has a 5.5″ screen, which is smaller than the original and about half the size of the 2nd gen. From movie trailers and video calls, to recipes and news reports, to smart home controls and music, it does everything the other options do, but most importantly, it does it with a price tag less than $100. If you’re going to use it as a smart alarm clock in the bedroom, which honestly seems like the best fit, it has a physical slider button on top that covers the camera and shuts it off so you don’t have to worry about prying eyes. The Amazon Echo Show 5 will be released on June 26th in Charcoal (black) and Sandstone (white face with gray back) colors.
