How To Pitch Cool Material
Note: If you have a product/brand for the Cool Material team to consider for coverage, contact tips@coolmaterial.com. We are only accepting editorial pitches from freelance writers, not brands.
A freelance pitch should consist of one or two paragraphs written in your voice with your point of view. Good pitches are succinct, focused, and tailored to Cool Material. Your pitch should explain the specific angle you are taking, who you plan to talk to, and why you’re the best person for this story.
Familiarize yourself with the type of feature-length stories we are publishing on Cool Material. Make sure your pitch would be a good fit.
While pre-reporting is important, we don’t typically accept completed stories. Along with your pitch, please include a potential headline and links to previous writing samples.
Before pitching, please check that Cool Material hasn’t already covered the topic.
While we try to respond to all outside pitches, it’s not always possible. And if you don’t receive a response, or if your first pitch isn’t a good fit for us, please feel free to pitch us again!
